Tsaghkadzor / About Tsaghkadzor

Tsaghkadzor

Tsaghkadzor has been attractive since the ancient times as a residence and a resort place where people inhabited from 3-5 centuries. This residence was called as “Tsaghkunyats Canyon” and served as both country house and chase for the Arshakunis. Many Armenian princes and kings had hunted here, attracted by the breathtaking nature, picturesque valleys and mild climate, lying at the eastern part of Tsaghkunyats Mountain.
The city of Tsaghkadzor is located at the Kotayq region of the Republic of Armenia and has nearly 2000 habitants. The city is located at the flank of Teghenis Mountain and at the left side of the Marmarik River which is 1845 meters high from sea surface. The downhill mountain ranges stretching from north and south are covered with forests. From west and the east of Tsaghkadzor the river Tandzaghbyur is running and overflowing to the Stream of Marmarik River.
Its reputation of being a famous resort Tsaghkadzor preserved especially at the territory of the former USSR. Tourists from Soviet Union were also coming here to have a great time. During this period nearly 20 pioneer camps and rest- houses were working at the valley of Tsaghkadzor. At 1972 the ropeway was built at the valley of Teghenis, and Tsaghkadzor became famous as a ski resort. After the collapse of Soviet Union the city could easily overcome the crisis and now it is one of the leading centers of tourism in Armenia and the Southern Caucasus, with modern hotels, restaurants, places of leisure, with highly qualified institutions of trade and service, with renovated streets and with all necessities of communication.
